FarStone Releases VirtualDrive Network 2005

IRVINE, CA — April 12, 2005 — FarStone Technology has announced the release of VirtualDrive Network 2005, the latest version of its network-based CD-DVD emulation software that allows users to share CD/DVD programs over a LAN.

VirtualDrive’s virtual CD (VCD) approach is ideal for organizations of all sizes, ranging from small-to-medium size businesses to Fortune 500 companies and academic institutions. Connected to a host computer storing VCDs, networked users can access disc-based content as if it were on their local drive. The easy-to-use virtual ROM drive can be configured for secure, managed access.

VirtualDrive Network 2005 comes with a management console that allows administrators to control licensing agreements by checking out and checking in VCDs. Meanwhile, users benefit by having easy access to commonly-used applications and multimedia files — with no need to insert a physical application disc in a CD-ROM drive.

“We use Virtual Drive Network for CD backup and a large percentage of our physical media is now stored on the network as Virtual CDs I haven’t found something that I wanted to do with Virtual Drive Network that I couldn’t do. That’s why I use it at the office as well as at home,” said David Seward of Western Disposal, top provider of collection, recycling and disposal services to residential and commercial customers.

Simply by inserting a CD or DVD into a CD-ROM drive and clicking “Build VCD,” a user can convert the contents of the disc into a compressed file that runs directly on the hard drive. VirtualDrive Network 2005 builds unlimited VCDs, which, when inserted in a virtual drive, appear in Windows Explorer as though they were actual physical discs.

VirtualDrive also allows a user to copy an entire VCD to a writable CD, erase a writable CD or DVD, and burn CDs and DVDS. The software offers VCD password protection and checks the integrity of data after every recording session.

“Organizations are looking for an affordable, easy-to-manage solution for maintaining and sharing stored information and multimedia resources. We’ve enhanced our already strong VirtualDrive Network solution with even greater functionality,” said Tom Fedro, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at FarStone.

VirtualDrive Network 2005 includes support for all new encryptions and copy protections. Already one of the most affordable networked CD emulation solutions on the market, VirtualDrive Network 2005 is even more affordable schools, libraries, and non-profit organizations, who are eligible for generous discounts.
