FarStone Releases Data Backup Software for Servers

Ease of use, pricing, full feature set make RestoreIT® Server Edition ideal for small to mid-sized enterprises

IRVINE, CA — November 14, 2006 — Small to mid-sized companies, academic institutions, and government entities with limited technical resources now have a powerful new way to quickly and easily restore their servers in the event of a crash, thanks to RestoreIT Server Edition from FarStone Technology, a developer of PC and network-based system recovery solutions.

RestoreIT (pronounced “restore-it”) Server Edition is an easy to use, competitively priced backup and total system recovery solution that lets users roll back their entire system — including files, applications, personal settings and passwords — with just a few clicks of a mouse, whether the operating system is able to load or not.

The software automatically backs up server files to a protected partition on the server hard drive, a network share or external device at any frequency set by the user. In the event of a server disaster caused by a virus attack, a Windows® crash, a faulty software installation, or a problem caused by human error, the user needs only to reboot the server and press the space bar on the keyboard to activate RestoreIT, rolling back the system to the most recent backup point.

The product’s ease-of-use, broad range of features and pricing make it ideal for small and mid-sized businesses, branch offices of distributed enterprises, academic institutions and government entities. The solution eliminates the need for costly tape drives, hardware RAID and back up software, putting the convenience and peace of mind of data protection within reach of smaller organizations with limited IT staff and resources.

In recent years, small businesses have begun to protect their data from malicious attacks, viruses and potential for human error through conventional backup methods, such as redundant servers and online storage. While those methods are effective in storing data, they do nothing to restore a business’s server — a task that usually requires significant downtime and incurs substantial expense, which often cripples organizations competitively and financially.

“RestoreIT fills the gap in an organization’s system recovery strategy,” explains Tom Fedro, executive vice president for FarStone. “Conventional backup software and online storage are only partial solutions — they won’t do much good if the operating system won’t load, and won’t bring your system back to where it was before the crash,” Fedro explains. “Unlike most products on the market today, RestoreIT is pre-OS, meaning it loads before the operating system does — your OS could be completely dead, but you’ll still be able to bring your server back to full operability — including files, applications and settings — with just a few clicks of a mouse. It’s a cost-effective way of making sure you’ll be able to get back online quickly and painlessly, with minimal downtime and expense.”

RestoreIT resides between the system BIOS of a server and its operating system. During installation, RestoreIT creates a hidden partition where it will begin saving complete and partial restoration points. Unlike other data backup utilities, RestoreIT Server enables both file-level recovery, which allows users to undo changes to any given file by reverting to its last incremental backup point, and system recovery, which restores every file on a hard drive to a chosen static backup point. RestoreIT’s image compression and incremental backup technology occupies a small portion of hard drive space on most computers. The product supports RAID 0 and 1.

Pricing and Availability

RestoreIT Server Edition is competitively priced at $149.99 per server license, with future discounts for higher quantities; academic institutions and government entities may be eligible for standard discount pricing. For further information, please visit the RestoreIT Server product page.
