Turning Back the Clock Restores Productivity

FarStone readies new recovery software suite to address the needs of SMBs

IRVINE, CA — February 20, 2007 — As small and medium businesses continue to grow and prosper, they face more challenges that threaten productivity. One area that causes the most down time for small businesses is when the company’s computer system fails. Exasperated and frustrated, most users simply wish they could turn back the clock and resume working on their computer.

Instead, recovery can take several hours, and in some cases days to accomplish, depending on the amount of data lost and accessibility to that data. According to the National Archives and Records Administration in Washington, 93 percent of companies that lost their data center for 10 days or more, filed for bankruptcy within one year of the incident.

Indeed, the consequences can be grave or simply discouraging due to lost time, opportunities and revenue. To combat this, many businesses have embraced a variety of back-up strategies and may have their files stored off site or online, but they are of little use if the company cannot restore their system to working order, allowing access to those files. In fact, a 2006 Gartner survey found that 43 percent of smaller companies plan to use a service provider to back up their business-critical information. While a step in the right direction, back-up solutions are incomplete without a recovery plan that gets employees back to work on their computers.

Leading the movement for quick, easy and transparent recovery is FarStone Technology, an innovative developer of recovery software that has already saved legions of computer users from the despair of lost productivity due to their system going down. Their patented RestoreIT® technology has been awarded numerous accolades from multiple sources including PC World, CRN, Network World and most recently recognition by Tucows, an industry leading authority on software.

FarStone’s RestoreIT technology is in use throughout the globe and is licensed by industry leaders including Intel, AOL, TrendMicro, Seagate, Fijitsu, Phoenix Technologies, and others. Furthering their commitment to recovery solutions, FarStone is readying its new suite of products under their DriveClone™ brand. The suite is specifically designed to address the critical needs of small and medium business and will complement the security features built into the new Windows Vista operating system.

“Down time and the lost productivity that comes with it can be destructive to businesses of all sizes,” said Tom Fedro, FarStone’s executive vice president. “Small and medium businesses are especially challenged as they typically do not have the IT resources and staff of larger enterprises to quickly recover their system when it goes down.”

The DriveClone product suite roadmap consists of multiple software products, designed for networks, servers and system builders. All products in the new suite contain RestoreIT technology, which automatically backs up data, files and entire systems to a hidden partition on the local hard drive or to another network or to an online back up facility or to physical media. In the event of a disaster, administrators or end users simply choose how far back they would like to restore (e.g. an hour, two hours, one day, etc.) and with three clicks of a mouse, the recovery process is immediate and painless.

Such disasters include a virus or hacker attack, a Windows® crash, a faulty software installation, or a problem caused by human error. Additionally, the new suite includes hard drive imaging, where the user can make a one-to-one copy of the hard drive, allowing quick recovery or even replacement of the drive and support for RAID 0 and 1.

Currently at key customer sites for final testing, the new DriveClone suite is slated to launch next month.
