FarStone Develops New Disk Imaging Software for System Builders
Coalescent Technologies incorporates DriveClone System Recovery in units for the Army National Guard
IRVINE, CA — February 27, 2007 — FarStone Technology has developed DriveClone System Recovery, a new hard disk imaging solution for system builders. The software offers data disaster recovery for custom systems, and combines DriveClone hard disk imaging and RestoreIT data backup technology.
Coalescent Technologies, the first customer use of DriveClone System Recovery, will be integrating the software into their Mobile Virtual Training Capability (MVTC™). MVTC is an affordable, turnkey solution that supports critical training missions for the Army National Guard.
Fred Bonilla, MVTC Project Manager for Coalescent Technologies, explained that using MVTC in harsh training environments can sometimes lead to software corruption or data loss. Previously, units were shipped back to Coalescent’s office in Orlando, Florida. This added to cost and removed units from service while they were in shipment or being repaired. According to Bonilla, “In order to help reduce cost and increase our response time for repairs, we found a solution with FarStone. DriveClone System Recovery gives us the ability to respond and reconfigure machines over the phone in minutes, compared to days of downtime due to shipping.”
“We are all very proud to work with Coalescent Technologies and to be a part of their MVTC offerings,” said Tom Fedro, executive vice president for FarStone Technology. “It gives us great satisfaction to know that our technology is helping our armed forces reach optimum preparedness.”
With DriveClone System Recovery, builders can multicast a system “factory” backup image across multiple units before they are sealed. The backup image is stored in a hidden, protected partition and can be accessed through an intuitive user interface, enabling quick recovery from software-related data disasters. Users can also burn their system image to CD or DVD for recovery from hard drive failure.
