New Stress Arises from the Digital Revolution

FarStone offers simple precautions to avoid a meltdown

The average consumer faces mounting stress and anxiety as they rely upon their home computers to store and safeguard valuable data, irreplaceable photos, music, videos and more. Home computers have become a lifeline supporting everything from work pursuits and entertainment to keeping in touch with family and friends. In addition, small office/home office (SOHO) users face the added challenge of running a business within the confines of their home without professional technology experts at their side.

Indeed, home computing has become a welcome part of modern day life and according to a recent Pew Research Center survey, more than 50 percent of the adult population in America considers home computers a necessity. With computers gaining appliance status, there’s no question that the digital revolution is reshaping and enriching consumer lifestyles. And that’s the point — no one wants to lose the convenience of global access to anything and anyone via the Internet, or the family photo album, or thousands of music files, videos, tax records and the like.

Yet the risk of loss looms each day and noted experts warn that precautions should be taken since the chances of a computer mishap is a matter of when, not if. According to Irvine, California-based FarStone Technology, a developer of hard disk imaging and data recovery software, consumers need to consider the most common PC disasters and prepare themselves to address these issues when they arise:

  • Viruses, malware and bots or other malicious software
  • Deleted or corrupted files due to viruses
  • Pop-ups, undesired “new programs,” after surfing the web
  • Software/hardware installation or updates gone wrong
  • System or network configuration errors
  • Full operating system crash (aka “Blue Screen of Death”)
  • Hard drive failure

While an abundance of fix and repair services are surfacing and coming to the aid of consumers, most users still feel a loss of control and vulnerable to the myriad of forces that can wreak havoc on their computer experience. Tom Fedro, executive vice president of FarStone, says, “We are all dependent upon technology and interacting with computers can be complicated at times. When possible we need to follow some simple steps to protect ourselves. That’s precisely why we developed DriveClone: to provide an easy and affordable safety net for any computer user. Like most people, I have personally experienced a number of PC disasters and instead of sweating bullets — I simply hit a few keystrokes and I was back to business in seconds.”

DriveClone and DriveClone Pro are FarStone’s software utilities that ensure even the most novice of computer users don’t experience a meltdown from the loss of precious data. Once installed, DriveClone automatically copies an exact image of a computer’s hard drive and stores the image as a compressed archive, including all files, partition information, system settings and preferences, and all security information. This image can be burned directly from the software onto CD/DVD or saved on a USB external hard drive or another storage location on the same network.

Moreover, anytime a user has a PC problem and finds their computer is not working as it should, in just three mouse clicks they can instantly go back to a time when their computer last worked properly using DriveClone Pro. If the computer crashes due to a virus attack, faulty software download or a human error that leaves the user with the “Blue Screen of Death,” everything they need to restore their system can still be accessed on a hidden, protected partition on their hard drive that does not require Windows to run.

Fedro added, “The DriveClone products are designed for the non-technical user. They work in the background without the user having to think about it and is truly a ‘set it and forget it’ application providing constant protection and peace of mind. Isn’t that what the digital revolution is all about?”
