DriveClone Network Technical Highlights

The DriveClone Secure Area

This is a hidden, protected virtual partition residing on a computer’s hard drive. It uses free space hard disk space to create a new, logically continuous storage area.

File Backup and File Version Recovery

Whenever a personal file or a select file type is modified, the DriveClone Network saves a record of that change to the Secure Area. These saved versions can be recovered if a file is accidentally overwritten or deleted.

System Snapshots

System Snapshots are quick, local backup points used for recovery from software-related data disasters. Snapshots log changes in blocks of data at the sector level and are stored in the Secure Area. Because they record only the changes that have occurred since the previous Snapshot, they take up a relatively small amount of hard drive space.

Hard Drive Imaging

A hard drive image is a complete copy of a partition or entire hard drive. Hard drive images can be stored on a network share or external hard drive and incrementally updated according to a schedule. They can be mounted and browsed like a physical partition, and used to restore a system following any data disaster, including hard drive failure.

PXE and Network Recover Manager

PXE stands for Preboot Execution Environment, an open industry standard. It works via the network interface card (NIC) as a boot method for a client PC. From the Client PC, a system Administrator can use PXE Restore in DriveClone Pre-OS mode to access a boot disk image.

VSS

VSS (Volume Shadow Copy Service) allows you to back up and recover open files while maintaining the consistency of the data. This is especially useful for databases like MySQL and Excel.

Management Functions

DriveClone Network contains several group management functions to improve the efficiency of backing up multiple systems in a network.
