Why can’t I install RestoreIT?

Older versions of RestoreIT require continuous tail space in order to be installed. If your system needs to be defragmented or the last sector of your partition is occupied, then this message will be displayed. To solve this problem, simply run your disk defragmenter program and Scandisk.

If a Blue Screen error occurs during the installation of an older version of RestoreIT, boot your computer from a Windows XP CD and when prompted, choose the Repair option (Press the R key). This will load the Windows XP Recovery Console; here you will need to type the following to launch Windows Check Disk: chkdsk /r This will search the entire hard drive for any errors and repair them. After the Check Disk command has completed and you are returned to a command prompt, type EXIT to leave the Windows Recovery Console and restart your computer. After your computer restarts, the installation of RestoreIT should continue and complete in its entirety.

The latest version of RestoreIT 7 with virtual partition addresses many of the installation problems mentioned above. We encourage you to either download the latest executable file or upgrade to RestoreIT 7 to help resolve the installation problems that occurred in earlier versions of the software.

When I restart the computer after installing RestoreIT, a blue screen error is displayed. The error code is 0x7b(0xC0000034, 0xC000000E, 0x00000000, 0x00000000). How do I fix this?

This error occurs when you alter the partition size or backup/restore to/from a different sized disk with RestoreIT. And this problem exists with most system deployment tools. To solve this problem, please follow these steps:

  1. Press the space bar at system startup to enter RestoreIT in Pre-OS mode.
  2. Remove RestoreIT in Pre-OS.
  3. Reinstall RestoreIT. Please note you should select a different partition size from the previous installation for the RestoreIT partition.

Why doesn’t RestoreIT recognize my External USB Hard Drive in Pre-OS?

Buffalo and some other external device manufacturers provide a “Power Mode” setting on the back of the device; if this feature is set to “Auto” RestoreIT may not properly recognize the external device upon startup. Changing the Power Mode setting to “Manual” can overcome this limitation. If your external drive was not recognized when RestoreIT was attempting to launch in Pre-OS mode, please shutdown your computer, remove and reattach the USB cable from the device to your computer, verify the Power Mode setting and then restart your computer.

Can RestoreIT really protect my PC from being destroyed by a virus?

Yes. With RestoreIT, you can revert your computer back to any point in time before the virus attack occurred.

How much hard drive space does RestoreIT use?

RestoreIT uses a minimum of 400 MB of space. However, it is recommended that you reserve about to 5-10% of your hard drive space for RestoreIT data.

How much time does RestoreIT take to recover files?

It depends on how much data needs to be restored. It can take anywhere from 20 seconds to 10 minutes.

Can RestoreIT fix my system if the hard disk has been formatted or f-disked?

Yes. You will still be able to recover your system as long as RestoreIT was active in the background when the formatting or f-disking occurred.

Why can’t I see the partition created by RestoreIT for backup in Windows Explorer?

For security reasons, RestoreIT hides the backup partition. Therefore, the backup partition is not viewable in Windows Explorer.

Why does my anti-virus program warn me about possible virus activity while installing RestoreIT?

The changes that RestoreIT makes to your PC during installation are similar to the behavior of a virus. Therefore, the anti-virus program will give you a warning while installing RestoreIT. Please disable your virus protection program prior to installing RestoreIT. You can enable it again after the RestoreIT installation is complete.

Why does RestoreIT tell me that there is not enough tail space on my hard drive?

RestoreIT requires continuous tail space in order to be installed. If your system needs to be defragmented or the last sector of your partition is occupied, then this message will be displayed. To solve this problem, simply run your disk defragmenter program and Scandisk.

Does RestoreIT support hyper-threading motherboards?

Yes. RestoreIT versions 3.04 or higher support hyper-threading motherboards. For users of RestoreIT 3.03 or lower who would like to have hyper-threading support, please click here to download the patch that enables RestoreIT to support hyper-threading.

  1. Try disabling your Firewall and Pop-up Blockers and attempt to re-launch Live Update.
